Brentwood, Cool Springs Lure National Firms

When her company relocated to Brentwood in the fall of 2006‚ Judy Bishop’s commute shortened by nearly 800 miles.

As president and CEO of what was formerly known as Texas Home Health‚ Bishop had traveled to company headquarters in Silsbee‚ Texas‚ from her home in Brentwood for six years. The company announced in October 2006 it was moving its headquarters to Brentwood and would be changing its name to Guardian Home Health to better reflect its presence beyond Texas.

Guardian has 9‚000 employees and serves 14‚000 clients in Tennessee‚ Texas and Georgia.

“It just made sense for us to move the headquarters to Brentwood‚ where the CEO lives‚ as well as to draw on the [Nashville health-care industry] talent here‚” explains Bishop‚ who has lived in Brentwood since 1993.

The relocation of Guardian Home Health is just one example of how an increasing number of companies are looking to Brentwood and Cool Springs as a place to call home.

This particular sector of Williamson County offers a wide range of benefits‚ from its proximity to Interstate 65 and Nashville to its quality and quantity of office space and even access to shopping and restaurants.

Of course‚ no relocation news made bigger headlines than when Nissan North America announced in 2005 that it would move its U.S. headquarters from southern California to Cool Springs. The Japanese automaker's $70 million‚ 450‚000-square-foot office building sits at the McEwen interchange at I-65.

Nissan officials made the decision to relocate to Cool Springs to cut costs. The company brought with it 1‚300 new jobs with an annual payroll of more than $100 million.

Guardian Home Health‚ which was founded in 1969 as a company that provides a variety of in-home health-care and hospice services‚ has already expanded its office space in Brentwood and Cool Springs. The company has an executive office in Maryland Farms and an office for additional staff on Mallory Station Road. Its nursing and hospice office – known as Guardian Home Care – is located east of I-65.

Another company that could tout the benefits of Cool Springs is Delek US Holdings Inc.‚ which was founded in 2001 and owns MAPCO Express markets‚ among other properties. The company is located in a 54‚000-square-foot office building off Moores Lane.

“We outgrew our previous office space‚ and this is a perfect fit‚” says Uzi Yemen‚ CEO and president of Delek US. “This is a developing area‚ and we have four stores within a mile of our office.

“When we founded the business‚ we had 198 stores‚” he continues. “Today‚ we have close to 400 stores‚ plus (an oil) refinery‚ terminals‚ pipelines. All of that wasn’t there at the start.”
